Challenge

MomsRising Education Fund sought to mobilize mothers across the nation to engage in the electoral process and encourage others to vote. While their previous efforts included a volunteer campaign that resulted in the distribution of 5 million physical postcards urging moms to vote, they recognized the need to adapt their outreach for a digital landscape. The organization aimed to create a more dynamic and engaging platform to not only amplify their message but also to collect compelling stories from mothers about why they were participating in the election.

Solution

To enhance their campaign, MomsRising transformed their postcard design into a digital format using Soapboxx’s video postcard feature, making it easily shareable on social media. Beginning in July, they started gathering election-related content and utilized the Netroots Nation 2024 conference as a key opportunity to collect powerful stories. At the event, MomsRising set up a storytelling booth where participants wrote their voting motivations on a whiteboard, resulting in impactful visuals that conveyed their messages far more effectively than typical selfies. Additionally, attendees were encouraged to record short videos explaining their voting priorities, further enriching the campaign’s content. Just before the election, under their partisan c4 organization, MomsRising Together, they created a downloadable photo frame that community members could use to update their profile pictures, fostering a sense of solidarity and visibility among moms advocating for voter participation.

Result

The campaign successfully galvanized a large number of mothers and their families to engage with the electoral process. The digital postcard initiative, combined with the storytelling booth at Netroots Nation, created a vibrant collection of narratives that showcased the collective voice of mothers advocating for change. The visual impact of the whiteboard messages and the recorded videos not only highlighted personal motivations for voting but also resonated with a broader audience, encouraging more moms to share their stories and participate in the electoral process. The downloadable photo frame served as a unifying tool, enabling community members to express their commitment to voting and raising awareness across social media platforms. Through this comprehensive approach, MomsRising effectively amplified their reach, inspiring an even greater turnout among mothers during the election and establishing a powerful model for future voter mobilization efforts.
We weren’t really using member videos before Soapboxx. Now video has become a go-to and a cornerstone of our strategy.

Can you describe the process of working with soapboxx from set up and support to utilizing the videos you collected?

Working with Soapboxx to gather video stories has been a very important piece of our larger storytelling program. The Soapboxx platform is user friendly and their team has been wonderful and timely about responding to questions and requests. Many of the videos we collect are shared on our social media channels to lift up critical issues during key moments in the policy process, educate our followers on different topics, and spark meaningful conversations.

How did Soapboxx help you reach potential voters across the country?

Ahead of the 2024 election, Soapboxx helped us gather stories about what issues were most present on people’s minds. We shared many of the videos on our platforms, and compiled clips into topic-specific videos to lift the voices of parents during the election. From health care, to child care, to democracy protection—and much more—storytellers shared their thoughts with us so that we could amplify their concerns to our audience and build urgency around getting out to vote.

Why did you choose to use Soapboxx for your campaign instead of solely using social media?

Soapboxx makes it easier for our storytellers to share their experiences on their own time and in a lower pressure environment. I love that they can record a video as many times as they like until they get a video they’re happy with before uploading. It’s also less pressure than recording something live with someone watching, and with busy parents as our main constituency, Soapboxx makes it easy for them to sit down at whatever time works for them to record their story.

What was your favorite part about using the tool?

Since we are a multi-issue organization, it’s been nice to be able to funnel storytellers to different landing pages and run multiple campaigns at a time.
